He looked around and took a deep breath. He did most of his work in the dark, but that didn't change his dislike for it. Bad things happened to people in the dark, a fact he well knew, since he did some of them.

Tonight was no different. He was waiting in the dark for a man who owed him money. A lot of money. He'd be warned, repeatedly, to come due with his debt. But, like most gamblers, he pushed his luck with everything. So Jimmy had come, personally, to collect.

When the man, with the unremarkable name of John Wilson, arrived in his apartment, he found Jimmy sitting on his couch, with the lights off. Before John could turn on the lights, he heard the distinctive sound of a bullet sliding home in the barrel of a handgun. He froze and slowly turned around, finally spotting the man in his living room.

All the bravado that John had possessed when dealing with Jimmy's boys disappeared when confronted with the man himself. Before Jimmy could even speak, John was begging for his life. He put himself on his knees at Jimmy's feet, pleading with him for one more day. With a sneer, Jimmy pushed the man back to the floor and stood.

With the pistol leveled at John's forehead, Jimmy nodded once. "One more day."

John let out a relieved whimper and closed his eyes. Growling at the obvious weakness of the man at his feet, Jimmy kicked John once in the stomach before heading toward the door. He suspect that John would renege on his part of the deal so, when he reached the front door he turned back and snarled.

"One day or your family is dead."

He slammed the door behind him and holstered his gun as he headed down the stairs and out into the dark.
